Organ donation is the removal of tissue or organs from recently deceased individuals in order to transplant it into a recipient. Generally, this procedure is done after the donor has been declared brain-dead, which then allows for the removal and donation of nearly all transplantable tissue. Sometimes, in case of a kidney, bone marrow or partial liver donation, these procedures may also be performed on donors that are still alive, as the health effects for the donor may be minimal.
